The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District (NWMAD) was organized under the "Mosquito Control Act" and is governed by a five member Board of Trustees appointed by the Cook County Board of Commissioners.   It is the purpose and intent of the District to reduce both nuisance mosquitoes and potential disease vectors through a program integrating surveillance,  source reduction, larviciding, adult mosquito control and public education.

 

 

SEASONAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE

 

All seasonal employees must be 18 years or older and hold a valid Illinois Drivers License.  The base pay for a first year employee is $10.00/hour.  There are two end-of-season bonuses available, one based on length of stay and the other based on job performance.  General work hours are: 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday.  The following positions are available: 

 

FIELD OPERATOR – Field technicians inspect standing water for mosquito larvae and treat the water as required.   During heavy mosquito outbreaks employees may be required to work additional hours (9 hour days, Saturdays or evenings) controlling mosquito larvae and the biting adults.  No experience is required.  Positions are available in Wheeling, Elk Grove and Hoffman Estates.

OFFICE/RADIO DISPATCHER – There is one position for office help.  This position involves general office work, including data entry & radio dispatch duties.  We will train but some typing and good speaking ability are required.  This position is at the Wheeling facility only.  Employee maybe required to work additional hours during heavy mosquito outbreaks.

LAB ASSISTANT – There are a limited number of positions available for lab assistants.  Employees will work with our Entomologist staff collecting and identifying mosquitoes and screening some samples for potential mosquito borne diseases.  No experience is necessary but a basic biology background is required, preferably at least 1 year of college biology.  This position is at the Wheeling facility only.
