WEST NILE VIRUS SPRAY CRITERIA

TRIGGERS:

1)    WNV positive mosquitoes (via VecTest or other rapid WNV assay)

2)    Local, multiple, sick/dead birds (WNV positive or in area previously WNV positive)

3)    Elevated Culex (or known human bridge vector) numbers in CDC gravid traps, CO2 traps, biting mosquito collections, New Jersey light traps in the vicinity of previously collected WNV positive mosquitoes

4) Local equine & human WNV cases

 

RESPONSE:

1)    Phase 1:

Targeted, localized adulticiding 2-7 miles encompassing trigger event(s)1-4

2)    Phase 2:

Repetitive, targeted, localized adulticiding with/without expanded buffer areas encompassing trigger event(s)1-4 within seven days of Phase 1

3)    Phase 3:

      District or area-wide adulticiding (when widespread- WNV positive mosquitoes and/or sick/dead/infected birds and/or human & equine cases)

4)    Phase 4:

      Repetitive District or area-wide adulticiding within seven days of Phase 3
