WEST NILE VIRUS SPRAY CRITERIA

TRIGGERS:

1)    WNV positive mosquitoes (via VecTest or other rapid WNV assay)

2)    Local, multiple, sick/dead birds (WNV positive or in area previously WNV positive)

3)    Elevated Culex (or known human bridge vector) numbers in CDC gravid traps, CO₂ traps, biting mosquito collections, New Jersey light traps in the vicinity of previously collected WNV positive mosquitoes

4) Local equine & human WNV cases

RESPONSE:

1)    Phase 1:

Targeted, localized adulticiding 2-7 miles encompassing trigger event(s)1-4

2)    Phase 2:

Repetitive, targeted, localized adulticiding with/without expanded buffer areas encompassing trigger event(s)1-4 within seven days of Phase 1

3)    Phase 3:

      District or area-wide adulticiding (when widespread- WNV positive mosquitoes and/or sick/dead/infected birds and/or human & equine cases)

4)    Phase 4:

      Repetitive District or area-wide adulticiding within seven days of Phase 3
