Field Technician

( Spots Available:  Wheeling - 18, Bartlett - 20, Elk Grove - 15 )

Field Technicians protect the public’s health by inspecting standing water for mosquito larvae and treating the water as required.  During heavy mosquito outbreaks employees may be required to work additional hours (9 hour days, Saturdays, or evenings) to control mosquito larvae and the biting adults. No experience is required.

Lab Technician

( 3 spots available Wheeling ONLY )  

Lab Technician's main focus is on the collections and identification of Mosquitoes in our district.  Using 3 different traps (BG Sentinel, Gravid, and NJ Light), we are able to collect a variety of mosquitoes, which then are brought back to the lab to be sorted and identified.  Lab Technicians also test these mosquitoes for and mosquito-borne diseases, like West Nile Virus, greater helping the District identify areas that should be more focused on.

Radio Dispatch/Data Entry

( 1 spots available Wheeling ONLY )

The focus of this job is the entry of all hard copy data, (Field reports, time sheets, service calls, etc.).  We are trying to maximize our work flow and by digitizing this data.  Doing this, we can create new lists for source inspection and prioritize treatments or treatment programs from past trends.  Radio operation begins during our season which starts May 1st and can continue through September.  No experience required.  This duty requires the employee to maintain communications with Field Trucks, record vehicle locations and treatments. 

Criteria for Employment

  • At least 18 years of age

  • A motor vehicle record that meets the District’s standard as noted on job application

  • Reliable transportation to be at District facilities when required

  • Able to work out of any three of the District facilities: Wheeling, Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates

  • Pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam with a score of 70% or above. Study materials will be supplied. $500 bonus for passing test on 1st attempt

  • Able to work full time hours (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday for at least 7 weeks from May 1th to Sept 30th 2022 AND adjust to overtime hours to serve District needs

  • Able to work Saturday shifts to serve District needs

  • Able to work extended work days to serve District Needs

  • Meet additional District requirements outlined on the job application and explained in detail during the interview process

Seasonal Application



Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to carry out physically demanding labor

  • Some knowledge of common processes, materials and tools used in repair of motor driven and mechanical equipment

  • Possession of valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work

  • Ability to meet such physical requirements as may be established by a competent authority.

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Polite and professional demeanor


  • At least 18 years of age

  • Associate Degree or equivalent college education preferred. Must have High School diploma or equivalent

  • A Motor Vehicle Record that complies with District policy and a valid Illinois Driver’s License

  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening

  • At least two years experience in automotive repair including small engine repair

  • Able to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture operator license within 30 days of hire

  • Able to lift, bend, twist, walk while carrying weight exceeding 50lbs

  • Able to walk long distances over uneven terrain for periods exceeding 2 hours

  • Able to work out of any of three district facilities when required: Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates, and Wheeling
