SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT

Field Technician

( Positions Available:  Wheeling - 18, Bartlett - 20, Elk Grove - 15 )

Field Technicians protect the public’s health by inspecting standing water for mosquito larvae and treating the water as required.  During heavy mosquito outbreaks employees may be required to work additional hours to control mosquito larvae and the biting adults. No experience is required.

Lab Technician

( 3 positions available Wheeling ONLY )  

Lab Technician's perform collection and identification of Mosquitoes in our district.  Using 3 different methods of collections (BG Sentinel, Gravid, and NJ Light).  Lab Technicians also test mosquitoes for mosquito-borne diseases, like West Nile Virus.

Radio Dispatch/Data Entry

( 1 positions available Wheeling ONLY )

The focus of this job is the entry of all hard copy data, (Field reports, time sheets, service calls, etc.).    Radio operation duty requires the employee to maintain communications with Field Trucks, record vehicle locations and treatments.  No experience required.

Criteria for Employment

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License

  • Pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam with a score of 70% or above. Study materials will be supplied.  The District will pay all testing and licensing fees AND you'll be paid for your time to take the exam!

  • Meet additional District requirements outlined on the job application and explained in detail during the interview process

Schedule:

Mon-Fri 7:00am to 3:30pm

Employment duration: May-Sept

FULL TIME EMPOYMENT

FLEET FACILITY TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to carry out physically demanding labor

  • Some knowledge of common processes, materials and tools used in repair of motor driven and mechanical equipment

  • Possession of valid driver’s license

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work

  • Ability to meet such physical requirements as may be established by a competent authority.

  • Ability to prioritize and multitask

  • Polite and professional demeanor

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Associate Degree or equivalent college education preferred. Must have High School diploma or equivalent

  • A Motor Vehicle Record that complies with District policy and a valid Illinois Driver’s License

  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening

  • At least two years experience in automotive repair including small engine repair

  • Able to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture operator license within 30 days of hire

  • Able to lift, bend, twist, walk while carrying weight exceeding 50lbs

  • Able to walk long distances over uneven terrain for periods exceeding 2 hours

  • Able to work out of any of three district facilities when required: Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates, and Wheeling
